The Junior League of Santa Barbara is passionate about improving the welfare of our community and strives to make a lasting difference. We seek to create sustainable projects with measurable impact.
In addition to making an impact with local youth and families, the Junior League of Santa Barbara enhances the lives of its member by providing valuable training and volunteer opportunities. Many of our members are leaders in community businesses and organizations, putting their JLSB skills and experiences to use in their professional lives.
The Central Coast has been identified as a natural corridor for trafficking activity between major metropolitan areas to the south and north. Santa Barbara County, a tourist attraction with conference venues, a transitory population, and migrant labor makes it vulnerable to trafficking activity as well. Santa Barbara County is an affluent community but there is a high number of foster youth and runaways, both of which are extremely susceptible to this crime. There are currently only 100 shelter beds in the US for sex trafficking victims, with only 18 of those in California despite the growing number of victims. By facilitating the opening a 6-bed shelter in Santa Barbara County, the Junior League of Santa Barbara will make a significant impact in working to end this awful crime.
