More information

JLSB's Disaster Relief Fund

Our community is experiencing severe damage and loss after a rainstorm brought massive amounts of mud and debris rushing from the mountains of Montecito through the small community, wreaking absolute havoc on anything in its path.

17 people have died from this tragic event, and several remain missing. Over 100 homes have been destroyed and many local businesses have been seriously damaged. Most of Montecito is currently under mandatory evacuation to allow search and rescue crews to continue looking for missing persons.

Our community had just begun to start thinking about recovering from the Thomas Fire, our state's largest wildfire on record, when this second tragedy struck. Local agencies, such as the Red Cross, are hard at work offering shelter, food and support.

The Junior League of Santa Barbara is coming alongside such agencies to provide volunteer help and financial support to the thousands of Montecito residents displaced and many victims of this disaster.

Please partner with us to support the multitude of needs. 100% of donations will go directly to Montecito Mudslide Relief efforts, and your donation is fully tax deductible. Thank you for your partnership and help as we work together to support those affected by the mudslides and help our community recover and rebuild.

JLSB's Ventura (Thomas) Fire Disaster Relief Fund

In response to the devastation underway as a result of the Ventura (Thomas) Fire, the Junior League of Santa Barbara is committed to providing aid and support to those in need.

Most notably, we are asking our community to support the young women who live in our partner shelter in Ventura County who are being deeply affected by this fire.  These young victims of sex-trafficking and sex abuse were evacuated from their therapeutic rehabilitative shelter on Monday, 12/4.

They are currently safely housed at a hotel and hope to be able to return home soon, but in the meantime, your support will help us:

  • Continue to ensure they have safe, temporary lodging and are not removed from their therapeutic program and returned to County Agencies (Probation, Child Welfare, Mental Health Svcs).

  • Assist with providing basic clothing needs in this cold weather. The young women were evacuated with no more than the clothes they were wearing.

  • Ensure they have nutritious meals and toiletries. These items are crucially important to their overall health, sense of confidence and self-care needs.

Having already been rescued from at least one traumatic situation, we can only imagine the fear and anxiety they are experiencing.  Your support makes all the difference in the lives of these young women.

We continue to work closely with the Administration of the Ventura County shelter in order to identify needs that we as a community can help support.  Should the funds raised via this campaign exceed the current needs of our partner shelter, remaining funds will be dedicated to other local Thomas Fire relief efforts.

These tragic events only further emphasize the importance of therapeutic, rehabilitative shelter for victims of sex trafficking.

2016-2018 S.A.F.E. House General

We are honored to announce that the The Junior League of Santa Barbara’s Signature Project is called S.A.F.E. House Santa Barbara.

We will work to facilitate the opening of a 6-bed shelter, designed specifically to provide trauma-informed therapy and housing for victims of sex trafficking.

With only 18 beds in the entire state dedicated to young women who have been sex trafficked, opening a 6-bed home will make a significant difference in getting these girls rehabilitated and keeping them from running back to their exploiters.

Your tax-deductible donation will help to fund the start-up costs for Santa Barbara County's first shelter for victims of sex trafficking.
